Math Worksheet Maker

Math Worksheet Generator

Build printable A4 practice sheets for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Set the digit length, carrying and borrowing, remainders and the times-table range to match the level you need — and the answer key comes with it.

The questions are generated inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Quick presets

One tap sets everything below at once. You can still change anything afterwards.

Number of digits

For division, the first number is the dividend and the second is the divisor.

Number of versions

Extra versions use the same settings but different numbers, so neighbours cannot copy each other.

Answer key

Type the same key again to get exactly the same worksheet back.

Choose your settings, press "Make the worksheet", and it appears here.

How to use

  1. 1

Pick the operation and the digit length

Choose addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, or use "Mixed" to combine all four. The first and second number can each run from one to four digits. The quick presets at the top set a common combination in a single tap.

  2. 2

    Add the difficulty conditions

Addition can require carrying or forbid it, subtraction the same for borrowing plus whether negative answers are allowed, division whether there is a remainder, and multiplication which times tables to draw from. Any question that misses the condition is discarded and redrawn, so nothing off-target slips through.

  3. 3

    Set out the page

Choose across-the-line or column form, how many questions go on a page and how many pages to make. An estimate of how many questions actually fit is shown as you change the settings, so reduce the type size or the column count if it looks tight.

  4. 4

Print it or save it as a PDF

The answer key follows the worksheet as separate pages. To leave it out, choose "Worksheet only" under "What to print". Changing Destination to "Save as PDF" in the print dialog gives you a file.

Who it helps

  • Parents printing a short arithmetic sheet every day
  • Tutors who need to drill carrying and borrowing on their own
  • Young children concentrating on one particular times table
  • Students who struggle to line up the digits in column form
  • Classrooms that need the same difficulty but different numbers for each group

How to raise the difficulty

In arithmetic practice, the conditions matter more than the number of questions. Work up in this order.

  • Addition: 1 digit → 2 digits (no carrying) → 2 digits (with carrying) → 3 digits
  • Subtraction: 2 digits (no borrowing) → 2 digits (with borrowing) → 3 digits (with borrowing)
  • Multiplication: one table at a time → the whole 2–9× range → 2 digits × 1 digit → 2 digits × 2 digits
  • Division: exact 2 digits ÷ 1 digit → with remainders → 3 digits ÷ 2 digits

Frequently asked questions

Are the answers correct?

The answer is calculated at the moment a question is created, then recalculated from scratch on a separate path; only questions where the two agree reach the page. For division it also checks that divisor × quotient + remainder = dividend and that the remainder is smaller than the divisor. It is still generated automatically, so a quick glance before printing is worth it.

Can I have addition with no carrying at all?

Yes. Choose "No carrying only" and every question will have column sums of 9 or less throughout. "With carrying only" does the opposite and guarantees at least one carry. Borrowing in subtraction works the same way.

Can I make a times table worksheet?

Choose "Multiplication" and leave the mode on "Times tables". Setting From and To both to 7 gives the 7× table alone; 2 and 9 gives the whole 2–9× range. Tables from 11× to 19× are available as well. Duplicates are redrawn, though a very narrow range can still repeat.

Does column form line up the digits?

Yes. Each digit sits in a cell of the same width, so units line up with units and tens with tens. When the answer is longer than either operand (99 × 99 = 9801, for instance) the cells widen to fit it. Division uses a long-division frame with room for the quotient and the working.

How are division remainders written?

On the answer key they appear as "quotient…remainder". So "12…1" means a quotient of 12 and a remainder of 1. Exact divisions show the quotient only. The divisor is always 2 or more and the quotient is always at least 2, so a question such as 56 ÷ 56 = 1 never appears.

Can I reprint exactly the same worksheet?

Type anything you like into "Worksheet key (seed)". With the same settings and the same key you get the identical sheet back. The key is printed in small type at the bottom, which is handy when a child loses their copy.

What is the difference between sets A and B?

Same conditions, different numbers. The digit length and the carrying rules are identical, so the difficulty matches, but neighbours cannot copy each other. Each set gets its own answer key.

Will a high "questions per page" overflow?

It can. That is why an estimate of the number that fits is shown in advance, with a warning if you go past it. Paper, fonts and printers all shift the estimate slightly, so printing one page first is a good idea.

Can I get it as a PDF?

Yes. Press "Print / save as PDF" and change Destination to "Save as PDF" in the print dialog (on a Mac, use the PDF menu). The text stays real text, so the file is small and easy to send on.

Does it work offline?

Yes. There is not a single external library, so once the page has loaded it works with no network. Generating and printing both happen entirely in the browser.

Is anything I type stored?

No. Everything happens inside your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Closing the page discards the title and class name you entered.
